The Hon. Mila Besich
Mila Besich was elected as Mayor of the Town of Superior, AZ in 2017, and has served her community and the larger Copper Corridor community with distinction. As a successful, adept and multi-talented leader, Ms. Besich-Lira has fifteen years of demonstrated success as an entrepreneur and executive in organizational management, marketing and business growth. She enjoys a sterling reputation not only as an elected official and business executive, but also as a community leader in the State of Arizona.
For the past 10 years, her company, Miracle Executive Services, has excelled in project management, administration, and event planning, as well as marketing for several small businesses, non-profits and governmental entities in Arizona.
Ms. Besich also serves as the Executive Director of the Copper Corridor Economic Development Coalition, where she leads a region-wide private-public partnership to advance the economic and community development of Arizona’s mining country. She is also the Advertising Director and a reporter for the Copper Area News publishers.
In her multiple capacities, Ms. Besich-Lira delivers focused and successful results on a broad range of fronts.
For the Town of Superior, Ms. Besich provides overarching leadership to the Town Council and staff. She serves her community with a purpose-driven zeal to lead the community to economic prosperity, engaging in policies and programs that benefit both residents and citizens. She is a business-friendly elected official, working with small business owners, entrepreneurs and corporate executives to identify and capitalize on opportunities that will yield positive impacts for Superior.
As an experienced trainer, Ms. Besich has taught courses for the Copper Corridor Business Success Center, Oracle Women’s Network, San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce, Central Arizona College, Florence Chamber of Commerce and Network Together Queen Creek.
She has been actively involved in several tourism projects in the Copper Corridor including: the opening and management of the Caboose Visitor Center; a founding member of the newly incorporated Legends of Superior Trail Inc. and managing Regional Tourism Team for the Copper Corridor Economic Development Coalition. She has been a speaker for the International Trail Symposium (2013), the Arizona Trails Symposium (2012) and the National Scenic and Historic Trails Conference (2013).
Prior to her election as Superior’s mayor in 2017, Ms. Besich also served on the Superior Town Council from 2013. She also has served as a member of the Superior Unified School District Governing board since 2010.
As an actively involved member of the community and region, Ms. Besich has a pulse on rural communities and their needs. She is currently Vice-President of the Superior Optimist Club and a member of the Superior Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Rebuild Superior Inc. Board of Directors and a Director of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum Board. She is a 2019 Flinn Brown Civic Leadership Fellow.
In 2014, Ms. Besich was awarded the Valle del Sol Exemplary Leadership award, which recognized her for her leadership in her community and region. Her work with the Legends of Superior Trails and her advocacy for the Arizona Trail were recognized by the Arizona Trail Association in 2017 when they named her the Community Advocate of the Year.
She resides in Superior with her two active and well-rounded young adults, Jose and Ashley Lira.
